I guess jump rope choice is a matter of preference, depending on what you’re going for. I know many people prefer the speed cable ropes, but I wanted a classic rope to learn my paces with. The leather rope is heavy, and coupled with the smooth ball bearing action, this jump rope has this crazy smooth swing and reassuring momentum that almost seems to carry you along with it. If you are just starting out and afraid you’ll make a fool of yourself, it’s almost impossible to do so with this rope. You know how they always give that super slow good-natured horse to the person who’s scared of horses? This rope is the jump rope version of that horse. It’s just going to make life easy for you. Now I feel sorry for kids, who get stuck with those forever-tangling plastic ropes. I do own a speed cable rope, and it has its own strengths, but it also has an unfamiliar feel and takes more practice to use well. The wood handles are smooth and look just as nice up close. Although they’re weighted, it’s not a ton of resistance, just a nice solid feel. The rope length is very easy to adjust – just takes a screwdriver and a knife. The leather does come with kinks in it, from being coiled in a package (exactly like the photo). I personally just hung mine from a door and the weight of the handles softens them out. If you really want to smooth it out, you can thoroughly wet the leather and then hang it. But it jumps fine either way.

It’s a jump rope. You spin it and jump over it. All requirements met here. The handles are heavy which is kind of nice to enhance the workout. I jump rope at least three times a week and after a few months the leather is still holding up pretty well, and after many drops, the handles are still in tact.
